On May 15, 2010 hundreds of artists, musicians, performers and culture
bearers will converge at the Raritan River Art Walk and Deiner Park in New
Brunswick to create an outdoor cultural classroom, celebrating arts and
culture along the waterfont. New Brunswick non-profits Raices Cultural
Center
and Albus Cavus are partnering with Family Arts Movement, Verbal
Mayhem
, Community Arts Mural Project, Hub City Revival, moxieTODAY and
hundreds of local artists, musicians, community members and supporters of
the arts to bring a full day of hands-on activities, workshops,
performances, art, music and culture to people of all ages.

In 2007, Albus Cavus began a dialogue with the City of New Brunswick which
resulted in the creation of the Raritan River Art Walk, originally a mile
long recreational trail along the Raritan River stretching from the Rt. 27
bridge to Buccleuch Park which now hosts the East Coast’s longest mural
wall. Since its inception, annual events have been held at the Art Walk
and Deiner Park in New Brunswick to showcase local performing and visual
artists and give artists the opportunity to paint a mural at the Raritan
River Art Walk.

After the success of last year’s Streets 2k9 and Monster Jam 2k9 events, a
coalition of local arts organizations has decided to present a series of
events blending visual and performing arts, education and community
throughout the summer and fall, starting with Spring Jam 2k10 on Saturday,
May 15, 2010 from noon-6 PM (raindate: Saturday, May 22, 2010).

Spring Jam 2k10 attendees are encouraged to pack lunches and bring a
blanket, the schedule of activities is continual throughout the day so
come prepared to learn, create, move and groove. With a full mile of live
and interactive mural painting and workshops on topics including DJing,
the stages of a mural, instrument making, dance and drumming, yoga, and
poetry, dozens of family activity tables and a sidewalk chalk off, and
performances by the Raices Cultural Center Ensemble, A.A.C.E*A. Warriors
(African American Cultural Experience Association Ensemble), The Band
Called Fuse, Verbal Mayhem, Silent Knight, DJ Iron Mike and more, people
of all ages will find themselves engaged and active.
